Law Library User's Guide: Carrels

A guide to the services, collections, locations, policies and rules of the Law Library.

Full-time first-, second-, and third-year law students, as well as LL.M. and eligible international students are eligible to obtain a Law Library carrel. On specified days at the start of each semester, eligible students may select a carrel from those available. A student may keep the assigned carrel as long as resident, full-time law school enrollment status is maintained, but if the student accepts a carrel or desk in another area of the law school (e.g., Iowa Law Review, TLCP, JCL, JGRJ, or Legal Clinic), the student must give up her/his carrel. Users may not tape items on the wood of their carrel, nor may they store items on top of their carrel; the carrels should be kept neat. Students who have an assigned carrel should purchase and use a security cable to protect themselves from theft; those who wish to use the Ethernet outlet must provide their own Ethernet cable.

All books and other materials must be checked out before removing them from the Law Library or keeping them in a study carrel.

Contact the Circulation Desk in the Law Library for additional information concerning Law Library carrels. They may be reached at (319) 335-9002.
