The Paper Chase

In 1973, the sleeper film of John Jay Osborn, Jr.’ s novel, The Paper Chase, became a surprise hit and the quintessential law school movie.

Timothy Bottoms portrays James T. Hart, a bright, eager, Midwestern, first-year Harvard law student who struggles with balancing his coursework and his relationship with the daughter of a stern professor.

John Houseman plays Professor Charles W. Kingsfield, Jr., a fearfully intimidating, ego-deflating contract law instructor, of which he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Houseman later went on to reprise the role in a television series of the same name.

Before she became famous as The Bionic Woman, Lindsay Wagner was cast as Susan, the attractive daughter of Professor Kingsfield and the fateful romantic interest of Hart.
