Introduction

Travaux preparatoires are the negotiation histories of treaties.  Travaux preparatoires serve both as historical records and as resources for the later interpretation of international treaties and conventions.  Something analogous in American law would be the legislative history of a statute.  The following research guide provides the user with access to specific travaux preparatoires and commentaries on major international treaties and conventions.

Chad Graham, a student at the University of Iowa College of Law, authored this Research Guide as part of the course requirements for the fall 2013 Foreign, Comparative, and International Law Advanced Legal Research course.
