This database provides access to three publications of Bracton's long treatise, written in the early to mid-1200s, that describes the entirety of English law and has been described as "the crown and flower of English jurisprudence." The work is remarkable both for its wealth of detail and for its attempts to make sense of English law largely in terms of the ius commune, the combination of Roman and canon law that was taught in the universities in Bracton’s time. The database and publications are hosted by The Ames Foundation of Harvard Law School.
