Introduction

Torts are civil wrongs rather than criminal acts. They involve injuries to or interference with persons or property. A defendant is liable for an injury if s/he failed to exercise reasonable care even though it was foreseeable that such a failure could result in the harm actually sustained by the plaintiff. Assumption of risk, causation, contributory negligence, damages, and duty are important concepts in tort law.
