Please note: During the period of coverage South-West Africa was governed by South Africa as a League of Nations Mandate once the former colonial ruler, Germany, was dispossessed during World War I. South Africa continued to occupy South-West Africa after its League of Nations Mandate was revoked following the World War II. The South African occupation continued until 1988, when it began withdrawing according to an international agreement. South-West Africa, now known as Namibia, gained independence in 1990.
