Kenya Law Research Guide: Getting Started

Introduction

Kenya is one of Africa's leading economic powers, and has a rich legal history drawing on various ethnic and inter-ethnic sources.  Customary and religious law play an important role among Kenyan ethnic groups and tribes.  In addition, Kenya has a long history of interaction with the common law, a legacy of Kenya's association with the United Kingdom as one of the latter's largest and most important colonies.  This research guide presents both primary and secondary legal resources dealing with the common law, customary law, and religious law of Kenya.

Edward Hall, a student at the University of Iowa College of Law, authored this Research Guide as part of the course requirements for the fall 2013 Foreign, Comparative, and International Law Advanced Legal Research course.
