Introduction

Taiwan, also known as the Republic of China (ROC), is located in the Pacific Ocean to the east of the People's Republic of China.  Taiwan is a leading world economic power, and is home to both an indigenous population and to refugees from the mainland who fled China when the forces of Mao Zedong succeeded in establishing the People's Republic of China.  This research guide concentrates on both historical and present legal resources and commentary dealing with Taiwan.

Angel Chiohh, a student at the University of Iowa College of Law, authored this Research Guide as part of the course requirements for the fall 2013 Foreign, Comparative, and International Law Advanced Legal Research course.
