Trade secrets are valuable commercial information which provide the owner with an advantage over competitors who do not have the proprietary information. Although trade secrets are usually discussed in the context of intellectual property, they may also be discussed in the context of corporate or employment law. A violation of trade secrets rights may be termed misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition, fraudulent inducement, inducement of breach, economic espionage, or various other types of business torts.
This guide is intended to assist researchers in locating primary and secondary materials relating to trade secret law in the University of Iowa Law Library’s collections. Because this guide is selective in nature, researchers should consult with a reference librarian or search InfoHawk, the library’s online catalog, to identify additional materials that specifically address their research needs.
