Troubleshooting Online Resources: License Issues

This guide covers common issues when accessing the Law Library's online resources.

Licensed resources can have terms of use such as who can access a resource and from where. These conditions can create access issues if you are unaware of them. Verifying access information can be very helpful when understanding why you may not have access to something you need. Below are common licensing issues you might encounter.

Licensing Issues

Some online resources have terms of use as part of their license. This can prevent you from accessing a resource under certain conditions.  You might encounter an access issue if you are trying to access a resource that:

  • Only allows a set number of simultaneous users.

  • Requires a username and password.

  • Requires you to be on campus.

  • Requires you to be an enrolled student of the College of Law.

  • Requires you to be physically in the Law building.

Verifying Access

The easiest way to determine if your issue is due to licensing is to look up the resource in InfoHawk+ and review the access notes. Below are the steps to do that and a demonstration video.

USING INFOHAWK+

 1.  Search for the resource in InfoHawk+

 2.  Search for the name of the journal or the database (not the title of the article)

 3.  Click on the appropriate record to view the public notes

 4.  Review any messages about access limitations.
