Legal Research - Online Modules: Research Planning

Welcome to the Research Planning Module!

Research plans help you to break down your research assignment, organize and plan your research, and formulate your research vocabulary. This Module is focused on teaching you how to:

  • conceptualize the structure of a legal research problem;
  • understand terms and connectors (Advanced/Boolean) searching;
  • identify, evaluate, and summarize materials facts within a legal issue; and
  • identify and summarize the procedural posture of a legal issue.

In order to get the most out of your Research Planning Module experience, we recommend following these 3 easy steps:

  1. Listen & View. Watch or listen to the Research Planning Module video. View, download, and save the Research Planning Handout for use in the Research Planning Workshop and for future reference.
  2. Practice Your Skills. Complete the Research Planning Workshop
  3. Check Your Answers. Check your answers against the Workshop Key
